The first step to using the BaziGua calculator is to navigate to the "BaZi Chart" module in your dashboard. In the birth information form, you will need to provide the following basic details: ◆ Birth Date (Year, Month, Day) — The system automatically uses Li Chun (Start of Spring, around February 4th) rather than the Gregorian New Year to determine the Year Pillar boundary. If you were born around February 4th, this is especially important because your BaZi year may differ from your calendar year. ◆ Birth Time (Hour, Minute) — Be as precise as possible, ideally to the minute. Traditional Chinese timekeeping divides the day into twelve two-hour periods. Even a few minutes' difference can cross a period boundary, resulting in a completely different Hour Pillar. ◆ Gender — Gender does not affect the chart itself, but it determines the direction of your Luck Pillars. Males born in yang years progress forward; males in yin years progress in reverse, and vice versa for females. After filling in your details, click the "Generate Chart" button to produce your Four Pillars chart. If you have registered an account and are logged in, the system will also automatically save your chart profile for future reference.

Birth city is the most commonly overlooked yet critically important input for accurate chart generation. BaziGua provides a worldwide city search feature — simply type your city name to locate your birthplace, and the system will automatically retrieve the longitude. Why does the city matter so much? Because the Hour Pillar fundamentally reflects the sun's true position, not the time on a clock. Within the same timezone, solar positions at different longitudes can differ by dozens of minutes. For example, within China's unified UTC+8 timezone, the solar position difference between Urumqi (longitude 87 degrees East) and Shanghai (longitude 121 degrees East) exceeds two hours. Without True Solar Time correction, the Hour Pillar for someone born in Urumqi would very likely be wrong. BaziGua's True Solar Time correction consists of two components: ◆ Longitude Correction — calculated from the difference between the birth longitude and the standard meridian, where each degree corresponds to a 4-minute time difference. ◆ Equation of Time — a small variation in day length caused by Earth's elliptical orbit and axial tilt, fluctuating by roughly plus or minus 16 minutes throughout the year. Together, these two corrections yield your true solar time. The system displays the corrected time in your chart results, so you can clearly see the difference between clock time and True Solar Time.

After generating your chart, you will see the core display of the Four Pillars. From left to right, the pillars are Year, Month, Day, and Hour. Each pillar consists of a Heavenly Stem on top and an Earthly Branch below. Heavenly Stems represent external, visible energy, while Earthly Branches represent internal, hidden forces. The Heavenly Stem of the Day Pillar is the nucleus of the entire chart, known as the "Day Master." The Day Master represents your intrinsic elemental nature — Jia/Yi belong to Wood, Bing/Ding to Fire, Wu/Ji to Earth, Geng/Xin to Metal, and Ren/Gui to Water. Every other Stem and Branch in the chart is evaluated relative to the Day Master to determine Ten Gods relationships (such as Direct Wealth, Seven Killings, Eating God, and so on). Below each Earthly Branch, you will also see "Hidden Stems" (Cang Gan). Hidden Stems are the Heavenly Stem energies concealed within each Branch, numbering one to three. For example, Yin (Tiger) contains three Hidden Stems: Jia Wood, Bing Fire, and Wu Earth. Their weight distribution follows the classical standard: ◆ One Hidden Stem: weight 1.0 (full strength) ◆ Two Hidden Stems: weights 0.7 / 0.3 ◆ Three Hidden Stems: weights 0.6 / 0.3 / 0.1 Although Hidden Stems are less visually prominent than the main Stems, their impact on the Five Element distribution should not be overlooked. A chart that appears to lack a certain element may actually contain that element's energy within its Hidden Stems.

Below the Four Pillars chart, BaziGua displays an Element Bar that uses five colors to visually represent the proportional strength of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water in your chart. The width of each color is proportional to that element's weight in the chart. The Five Element distribution is calculated by summing and weighting all Heavenly Stems and Hidden Stems across the chart. Main Stems carry a full weight of 1.0, while Hidden Stems are discounted according to the classical weighting system (0.6/0.3/0.1 or 0.7/0.3). This weighted calculation produces a distribution that more accurately reflects the true strength of each element in the chart. How to interpret the element distribution: ◆ The element with the highest proportion represents the strongest force in the chart, usually related to the Day Master itself or elements that support it. ◆ The element with the lowest proportion or one that is completely absent is the weakest link, potentially suggesting a need to consciously supplement that element's energy in daily life. ◆ A chart with relatively balanced elements is considered harmonious, while a chart where one element is particularly dominant or deficient tends to have more pronounced personality traits. The element distribution also directly relates to the Day Master strength assessment — if elements of the same type as the Day Master (Friend, Rob Wealth, Direct Resource, Indirect Resource) hold a high proportion, the Day Master is strong; otherwise it is weak. This assessment is the prerequisite for Yong Shen analysis.

The Yong Shen (Useful God / Power Element) is one of the most central concepts in BaZi analysis, and BaziGua presents your Yong Shen analysis through the "Power Element" card in your chart results. The Yong Shen is the element your chart needs most — like a prescription to balance the chart's imbalances. BaziGua uses the classical "Fu Yi" (Support and Restrain) method for determining the Yong Shen: ◆ When the Day Master is strong — the Yong Shen is the element that controls the Day Master (Officer / Seven Killings), and the Xi Shen (favorable element) is the element the Day Master controls (Wealth star). The prescription direction is to "drain and exhaust," releasing the excess energy. ◆ When the Day Master is weak — the Yong Shen is the element that produces the Day Master (Resource star), and the Xi Shen is the element of the same type as the Day Master (Friend / Rob Wealth). The prescription direction is to "support and nourish," replenishing the deficient strength. The practical applications of Yong Shen analysis are extensive. The Power Element card not only displays the elemental attributes of your Yong Shen and Xi Shen, but also recommends lucky colors corresponding to those elements. For example, someone whose Yong Shen is Wood benefits from greens, while someone whose Yong Shen is Fire benefits from reds and purples. These color recommendations can be applied to everyday scenarios like clothing choices and office decor. On the chart results page, you can click the "AI Interpretation" button, and the system will send your complete chart data (including Four Pillars, Hidden Stems, element distribution, Day Master strength, Yong Shen, and more) to an AI model, generating a personalized and detailed analysis report.
